View Full Version : Hedge-hopper in Niedersachsen
October 15th 05, 10:33 AM
Hi,
I was messing about with Google Earth and spotted what looks like a
medium-sized twin-engined passenger 'plane (Boeing 737-ish?)*extremely*
close to the ground just south of Belsen in Niedersachsen, N Germany.
The location is 52 deg 44 min 38 sec N, 9 deg 56 min 5 sec E.
It looks like it was heading for Hannover aiport - possibly by road!
Cheers,
Pete

So how do you judge the altitude? I couldn't.
There is no restaurant in a B737 shape in that area.

I don't think it's close to the ground; it's clearly pulling a
contrail. Probably fairly high, maybe at cruise altitude.

The 'double vision' is a clear indicator that it's moving pretty fast,
too. Common to lots of sat photos on resources like this. I couldn't
find the shadow, but the tree cover in that area was pretty thick, so
it's probably there somewhere.
Also, like another poster noted, 747s are rarely used for cropdusting,
so the vapor trail behind indicates that it's up at altitude. Still,
neat catch.
