Anyone here ever used Spirit Airlines?

I just happened to see that they must be new at DFW and visited their
website. Pretty cheap fares.

DFW/Ft Lauderdale $59
DFW/Jamaica $89

Just wondering if it's worth saving a couple of bucks by using them?

They are HQ'd a Love. Haven't flown them because they do not serve our
market.

I believe that you are thinking of Southwest Airlines. They are HQ'd and
Love. Spirit Airlines is HQ'd in Miramar, FL.

Weren't they started in Dallas at Love with T Allen McArtor as their CEO?

According to their webpage, they started in 1980 as Charter One, based in
Detroit. 1992 they changed the name to Spirit Airlines. In 1999 they moved
to Miramar, FL.

I googled T Allen McArtor, and it shows that he started Legend Airlines out
of Love. Looks as though they shut down Dec, 2000.

Yes. I flew them from Washington to Fort Lauderdale last March
(Easter Weekend). The fares were cheap enough that I flew their
pseudo-first class (Spirit Plus). Service was pretty good.

Spirit Airlines started as a charter operator with a pair of Convair 580s
doing gambling junkets from DTW to ACY. Now it is the largest privately held
airline in the US.

And the 90's, and the 2000's. Up here in Alaska, at least. ERA
Airlines only just recently retired them, mainly due to the obscene
expense of outfitting them with approved cockpit "safety" doors. The
FAA helping industry, once again...

Happy Flying!
