I know that I can go to the FAA Airman Registry and by entering a
person's name, find out what certificates he/she has.

I'm trying to locate an A&P and have his certificate number.
Is there a way of locating that person online based on that number? -

Many times it's the individual's SSN. You have the option to use that
or a random number assigned by the FAA.

You may find his name and cert number but his address only shows up to the
public if the mech wants it to.

Guys - we're mis-communicating. I have the guy's cert. number. I'm
trying to get an address. - Mike

Mike,
If the mech does not wish his address to be on public domain you can not
get it through the FAA site by using his cert number. I have contacted an
FAA at Nashville and had them get ahold to a mech friend that I did not know
his latest address and it doesn't show on the website. The FAA won't give
you his address but most times they will try to get in contact with the
person for you and give them your address and number.

I've been told that the SSN is no longer being used by the FAA for the cert
number. It all changed somewhere around 9-11.

A possible hard way.

Go to Internet and a white pages site (there are a number and some
free) and look for the name in the States first where you think he
might be located.

Copy down the data of each individual you find who matches his name
and their phone number.

Use your cell phone at night and week ends when you get free calling
and start calling the individuals.

With some luck you may find the guy.

I've used this technique in my genealogy searching with good success.
