What a bag of ****. I've never seen so many inaccuracies in a single
article...
So it was called turkey because it was 'so tough to fly and maintain'?
And to say that 'the Tomcat's dogfighting prowess became an anachronism so
the Navy retooled it as a ground-attack jet' is just... well...
I'm just a Tomcat fan, but the press screws up every time it writes about
aviation. How hard could it be to get well informed?
Now, the Hornet is magic... all is good now. Guess the long range strike and
the LANTIRN capabilities doesn't matter anymore. Nite Hawk is as good as
LANTIRN? That's not what I've heard.

JAM -
You're absolutely correct.
The NightHawk isn't nearly as good has the LANTRIN.
The Tomcat needed to rebuild itself as a ground attack plane because
the days of specialized aircraft are fading to the winds. There is no
more money for phrases like "Not a pound for air to ground"
I'm a Tomcat fan too. It is the plane that I wanted to fly since I was
10 years old - though that wasn't to be >G<
Now the Hornet - I'll agree with you - it is magic. >G<

the tomcats sure did look nice when 1st brought aboard the
carriers....next to the aging f'4's...they (the tomcats) looked fast on
the elevators...sitting still and chained down ;-)
