View Full Version : MSP very quiet on Christmas Eve

I drove my gal to the Minneapolis/St Paul (MSP) airport this afternoon at
1pm. She's flying home to Minot, ND for a week (1.5 hr flight).
MSP was sure quiet. NO LINES, few flights coming in, not many cars 'at the
curb' dropping people off or picking them up, empty concourse. Surprised me
a little, that's all.
Maybe the airport was super busy last night - on Friday?

I'm betting most everyone traveled on Friday... no one likes to travel on
Christmas Eve

$330 - $450 for a Friday depart - 4 flight options.
$250 (total) for a Saturday afternoon depart.
(NWA has a 'Minot to Mpls' monopoly)
We booked her for Saturday - this was 6 weeks ago.
1:30 ...we say good-bye in the concourse
2:15 ...she departed MSP
3:45 ...arrives in MOT
4:15 ...in her mom's kitchen ...520 (highway) miles away
Christmas Eve by 5 pm.
We thought it worked out perfectly: Sleep in Saturday morning, get a few
last minute things done before noon, head off for the airport at 12:30pm (45
minutes drive), be at "Ma's" for dinner. Save $100. <g>

well familiar with the NW monopoly.. I did 4yrs in Grand Forks.. NW only to
MSP regardless of where you were going..
and 4 years in Rapid City... going East out of RAP it's NWA to MSP
South.. it was UA to DEN. West.. it was DL to SLK... but that was back in
the mid 90s..

for about 500,- euros you can buy Frankfurt - New York roundtrip
but if you have to go to Minneapolis .... [1]

it appears to be always cheaper to fly lng distance between major hubs..
then it is to go short distances to "remote" locations... long distance,
BOS to LAS $330 round trip with a stopover in ORD both ways.. try to go from
PWM to LAS and the price jumps to $450/500.

I dropped my daughter off for her flight to Washington National this
afternoon at MSP at 4 PM. There were lots of cars at the drop off area, so
I dropped her at the nearly empty pick up area. Apparently lots of people
leave Mimmeapolis the day after Christmas, but no one arrives here. KD
