View Full Version : New fix names in honor of AOPA's President
Dan Foster
January 3rd 06, 10:52 AM
Neat -- the AOPA web site indicates that a) Phil Boyer has been at the
helm for 15 years as of two days ago, and b) new fix names in his honor
for the June publication of updated terminal procedure charts.
RNAV (GPS) RWY 5 approach for FDK will have new names for fixes: PHILB,
DEFND, and GEEAY. Nice touch.

Not Peace, Pease. Pease International Tradeport, the former Pease Air Force
Base, named in honor of Captain Harl Pease, Jr.
Despite repeated attacks on his B-17 by enemy fighters on August 17th, 1942,
Captain Pease completed bombing an enemy airdrome at Rabaul, New Britain.
The airplane did not return from this mission, Captain Pease was
posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

Nah. When the user fees are enacted, and the ADIZ is made permanent, it
will remind everyone of what a fine job this guy did.
But I like the AOPA tribute to Boyer! Kind of like sending yourself a
birthday card filled with praise.
I am happy with AOPA for now admitting that closing private airports
increases the property's value. A quote from their newest (dumb) "white
paper": "Its all about money. The property is more valuable with uses
other than an airport."

LINUS and WDSTK are possibilities, they're the correct format and not
currently used anywhere else. But LUCY is too short.

Green Bay's Austin Straubel Field has four RNAV(GPS) approaches. Starting
at RWY 36 and moving clockwise, the FAFs are FRZZN, TNDRA, FAVRE
