View Full Version : Training in Florida ?!?

Hi people...!
I'm thinking of doing my flight training in FLORIDA.
I'd like to make it to a commerical pilot's license (CPL) with
multi-engine (MER) and instrument ratings (IR).
Any SPECIFIC flight training INSTITUTES you could recommend?
What about accomodation?
I got a budget of about $30,000...
I'm an Indian student looking to bag about 200 hours.
Thanks...

ok. do you want one of those ab initio programs that bring you from zero to
airline captain?

most of the academis also offer housing.

Hey Martin,
If not Florda, where would you recommend?
Not bound anywhere but that's where I thought I could get good training
for cheap with nice weather... the whole package.
Tell me what you think...

Actally, I'll start the whole visa and TSA procesure once I'm sure
about where I'm going.

for initial training there are better areas for VFR than FL. IMHO, YMMV.

In some cases it might be better to go with a smaller outfit and pay as you
go (in smaller blocks). You don't know if you really will like the job as a
pilot.
Also, in terms of cost of living FL is a bit more expensive than other
states (due to tourists and snowbirds).

see if you have all the required papers (visa etc.)

Hey Killol,
Not sure why Marty won't answer your question but he probably means Arizona :)

Nice weather? Happen to keep up with the hurricane season last year?
One flight school moved out completely, moved all their aircraft
and operations and students who wanted to, to its facility in
Arizona.

not limited to AZ. Texas or New Mexico might work, too.

I think, to start flying, Arizona is perfect. I did my initial training in
Prescott and the weather was just top notch. Had one and a half days of
unflyable weather (for an initial student, that is) due to windy conditions.
For the instrument, I'd move the training to an area with some actual IMC.

How much of that instrument weather doesn't require boots?

but are there outfits with several locations around the US where you can
move around? It seems that re visa and ab-initio-programs it isn't a
working solution to move around the states.

That's right until you know where you are going it is impossible to start
the visa and TSA process.

A friend of mine from Europe did his instrument rating last Oct. in Florida, in
St. Augustine. Weather was bad enough to have actual IMC...

The list down the right hand coloumn on this site lists just about everyone
I've seen out here...
http://www.aviationschoolsonline.com/flight-schools/arizona.htm
FWIW, I trained at Tailwind Flight Centre at Chandler Municipal (CHD) and
I'd give them a thumbs up.
Chandler Air Service (also at CHD) gets good reviews as well.
HTH and good luck...

My school back in 1995 was North Aire, Prescott, AZ. Not very good for the
instrument, though, as IMC days are rare. But for the Private, the school
was excellent - checkride included landing at Sedona... check that out :-)))
