Does anyone know much about x-plane, and is it worth my while to
purchase it for my mac?

AFAIK, there are not other flight simulators in par with X-Plane for the
Mac. It has less eye candy and unfortunately less add-ons available compared
to Microsoft Flight Simulator, but X-Plane flight and physics modeling is
better in several areas.

Surely. X-Files is released in 3 different versions: for Mac, Windows, and
Linux. On the website all 3 versions are available for upgrading. Upgrade is
free from version .00 to version .99 (for example, if you bought X-Plane
8.00, you get free upgrades up to version 8.99).

That is only partially correct. The upgrade from 8.1x or 8.0x to 8.2x
and later does cost some money. That is due to the introduction of the
"new" global scenery, which comes on several DVDs.

No, that is not correct. Even without Global Scenery, upgrades to newer
versions are still available (for example, I don't have Global Scenery, but
I have upgraded from 8.00 to 8.30). The confusion arised from the fact that
the version 8.21 was just version 8.20 modified to work with Global Scenery.
Later versions (8.30 and versions yet-to-come) will work both with or
without Global Scenery.
