View Full Version : Violent airliner landing - is this real?

January 27th 06, 05:06 AM
Just saw this video on thatvideosite.com:

http://www.thatvideosite.com/view/1524.html

That's a crazy landing. Is it real? If so, does anyone have any
details, new reports, etc?

Paul.

There is no way that is real, unless it was some sort of test flight -
maybe an coupled approach test gone awry? First off, it doesn't look or
sound like there were any nasty winds that would've caused that (you
can hear people in the video, and not the sound of wind rushing over a
microphone), and if there had been any PAX onboard, there would have
been numerous injuries. If that had been a normal commercial flight,
the pilot would have gone around as soon as the plane began sliding
that bad. I also question the ability of the nosegear to take that sort
of punishment.

I fly all the time in commercial jets for business purposes, and the
worst landing I've ever had was flying in to Las Vegas on a Southwest
737. Las Vegas is always bumpy, due to the desert heat (I suppose), but
on this particular landing it suddenly felt as if the plane got smacked
by the hand of God herself, felt like we suddenly dropped a good 30
feet straight down. Overhead bins were popping open, stuff like that.
Regardless, we didn't land like that - as soon as that happened, the
engines fired up, flaps started retracting and the pilot went around.
Came on the intercom a few minutes later and said the winds had shifted
suddenly, and they were going to land from the opposite direction.

Any pilots want to comment? I'm just a sim-jockey, PP student with 0.5
hours in the cockpit ;-).

Here in Phoenix it's almost as sure a thing as death and taxes to "turn" Sky
Harbor around each afternoon due to the wind shift. I would think Vegas
would be similar.

Your flight may have been on the very tail end of the early ops and had you
arrived five minutes later, they probably would have already turned the
airport and not had the wild ride.

I've only had three true "white knuckle" experiences flying commercially and
all three were on DC10s within about 20 miles of landing at Philadelphia
International during the winter.

Maybe the Delaware River has some weird effect on surface winds?

This was a commerical. I believe it was from Norway. There is another
internet version that includes the sound byte afterwards.

This is a fake. The real thing is a ca 3m wingspan modelplane with
miniature turbines.
If there really had been someone in the cockpit he would now need new
teeth and a good orthopedist.....

Do a frame by frame and it is clear that it is a real aircraft and not
a model... The playback has been speeded up to make the PIO look more
dramatic...

Trivial details, compared with mistaking an A319 for a 737.

The really interesting point is that video is hosted on a porn site...
Now those of us who clicked on that url will be recorded as 'porn
searchers' when google turns over their data to the feds <and they
will>... Nice, eh?

Why would the feds care about people looking at porn, the most searched item
on the internet?

They would have to clear out Canada and make it a prison if looking up porn
was illegal, half of earth's population would be arrested.

I've flown models - they look pretty in flight they don't carry the
weight that real aircraft do. If this video were slowed down, maybe...
but if anything it has been sped up.

I agree it's unlikely to be completely real though.

.... and "porn site"? I don't think so. They just carry ads for porn
sites. How's living under that rock working out?

Pleading guilty to a low level misdemeanor indecent exposure (peeing in the
bushes after a college kegger 20 years ago) puts you on a sex offender list
today. Urban legend?

(Actually, our local TV news had just that story)

There are so many porn sites hiding behind innocent sounding URLs that
the Feds will be getting nothing but garbage.

PS: Yahoo and AOL have already turned over the data after removing all
identification. Google is making a federal case out of it strictly to
polish their public image and pump the stock.

I believe if they take all the porn off the internet there will
only be one site left and it will say "Bring back the porn!"

First year at college, I got soooooooo wasted. The guys ducked taped
my mouth shut, duck taped my entire body like a mummy, cariied me into
the street and sang along as they parded me past the Frat row. The
Campus Clowns/cops drove by, turned on the siren. My buddies promptly
dropped me on a pile of leaves on the road side...

I got charged with disturbing the peace and drunk in public! "But your
honor! I was drunk inside! They carried me outside! and your honor!
My mouth was taped shut! I couldn't have disturbed the peace!"

LOL miss those college years...

You've never had traffic called out at 12 o'clock and five miles.

The feds are actually looking for people who are trafficking in child
porn. Society's mores have not quite sunk so low that the exploitation
of children for sexual gratification is generally considered
acceptable. But it is getting there.

Actually, there is a brand of "duct" tape that is called "duck tape." It's
your lucky day.

At some of the larger meets (Nall) they stop the AMA sanctioned meet for a
half hour at noon, and then they pull out the big stuff. They have not
violated the AMA rule, that way. There is no US or FAA law against flying a
model above 55 lbs.

It takes two guys to cary out some of those scale T-6 racers and they
appear to way well in excess of 55#

Google doesn't own the entire Internet. If you clicked on the link, you
didn't do it by searching Google, you just clicked on a link.
