View Full Version : Sky Sailing in Early March?

I need to be in the San Diego area for a conference in early March and
am contemplating taking a few extra days off and driving down there
(from the SF Bay Area) with my glider rather than flying. I've done
this before, going to Pasadena and flying two days at Great Western
Soaring (Crystalaire).

I'm trying to figure out if it's worth doing. Namely, is early March
likely to be good soaring around Warner Springs? If I committed to 2 or
3 extra days down there, am I likely to get some good local or even XC
flying in?

Thanks for any pointers or experience. I *do* plan to ask the folks at
Sky Sailing, but would like independent confirmation too. ;-)

It's certainly possible. Looking at my log book over the past couple
years, I see several flights in the first two weeks of March with cloud
bases above 11,500, and some moderate cross country. That's not
including wave days, which can also happen that time of year. It's
still early in the season so there are no guarantees, of course.
