....In Frederick, Texas?

We're thinking about checking them out, and seeing what we can
steal....

(In the way of IDEAS, not the towels!)

It's in Fredericksburg, TX at Gillespie County Airport: (T82)
website http://www.hangarhotel.com/.

I've been to the cool 50's style dinner right next to it, both are ON
airport, in former hangers (in fact the restaurant is attached to a
"still a hanger <grin>" did not venture into the hotel though. Looks
great from the outside for an aviation buff.

I dont know how long it would take you to fly from Iowa, but there is
quite a bit to do in Fredericksburg especially for the shopping minded,
also 10 or 12 wineries, great German food, the Nimiz Museum, etc. Fly
on down and stay a day or three...

FredericksBURG, Texas.

I have been in the lobby but not stayed the night. The decor and
demeanor is very nice, partly owing to the fact that it was "brand new"
construction. I have eaten at the diner and it was very good.

The town is an excellent tourist draw, lots to see, do, and eat.

We have stayed at the Fredericksburg Brewing Company,
http://www.yourbrewery.com/, highly recommended also.

They need to move those menus over to the left - they're off the screen to
my right.

If your screen resolution isn't high enough, your browser should be
providing a slider-bar to allow you to move over to the right-hand-side of
the page. Both IE and Netscape 7.2 have no trouble seeing the right side at
low resolutions.

IE 6.0 and FX1.5 800x600 screen setting.

Yes, slide-bar needed to see the menu options. I disapprove.

It's an easy day flight... I made the flight between C17 and Houston or New
Orleans a few times and they would have ended during daylight if I hadn't
been one for not getting up early... In my plane, it's a single refueling
stop on the way up there...

Let's start a list and send it to them.

Jay, if you're looking for ideas to rip off then Do It Right & pick up
this month's "Air & Space" magazine (pg. 37 bottom right), you really
need a duplicate of the "Hanger 7 Threesixty" bar :).

If you fly down, plan on filling up at KSWI. Fuel is currently $2.70/gal
100LL. And, I would like to meet you. It is located in Fredericksburg as
a later poster will point out. Very nice place to visit.

If you set your screen to 1600X1200 everything shows fine.

A very good friend spent a weekend there with his wife. Loved every minute
of it.

They didn't do the diner, though...

Yeah, I thought their website sucked, too.

Lots of flash -- little info without too much digging.

Yeah, I saw that. Pretty cool.

All it takes is a billionaire who loves flying!

Hmmm. 3:46 to KSWI. 1:39 to FredericksBURG from there. Perfect!

All we need is four lousy days of good weather, and we're there. The kids
have off next Friday and Monday, and we're taking the weekend off to do
*something* -- it might as well be this.

Of course, the weather has been completely awful this winter, so I'd put our
chances at less than 1 in 5. But we'll see...

Angel Flight South Central has had several board meetings there. Much
better than I expected. They have done a good job of making it LOOK
realistic, without actually having old scratchy blankets and poor
heating/cooling. <G>

Biggest gripe isn't the hotel, but the diner - which is only open when
you aren't hungry.

Yeah, well -- it was 81 degrees there on Sunday.

I can overlook a few hardships....

Mine is set at 1152 by 864, no need to slide. I've found that this is
the best seting for the screen that I have.
