View Full Version : To Nevada in an Aztec

Well, we're off to Lost Wages in an hour or two, flying with Jim & Tami
Burns in their lovely Aztec for a week of R&R.
(See their beautiful bird here:

Dang weather looks like crap out West, so we might only make Albuquerque
tonight. We'll be glad to have that extra whirly thing out on the wing
when crossing the mountains, for sure. Not to mention having every
electronic weather/navigational gizmo on board, as well as a CFII pilot at
the helm.
It's just a walk in the park, Komanski... ;-)
I suspect we'll have some stories and pix to share with y'all when we get
back. Hold down the fort!

Jay... Welcome to Lo$t Vega$, Our glider club is only open on weekends, do
if you are here next Saturday I'll be busy in the tow plane (if it gets out
of annual).
We just had our biggest storm of the winter pass through.. post frontal
conditions in LAS today.. you'll have to face that stuff around ABQ unless
it has moved farther north.
Enjoy the trip past the BIG DITCH (Grand Canyon), and there was a nice
airplane museum at Valley airport (between GrandCanyon Airport and I-40)
A side trip through Sedona for lunch on the way back east might be nice.

I did a trip from Anthony, Ks. to Las Vegas, Nv. a few weeks ago.
Landed at VGT (Las Vegas North Airport).
Went out at 16,000 and back at 17,000. Weather was great. Refueled at
Farmington, N. M.
Enjoyed the Grand Canyon. I think I ended up at less than $100
contributed to the the casinos in Vegas.
Stayed at the Plaza. Was not impressed but atleast the room was clean.

My God, I never thought I'd hear of Anthony KS again. That was my RON in a
C-120 the first year I went to Oshkosh from San Diego in '72.
Marveled at the name of the town newspaper. It was the "Anthony Republican"
as I vaguely recall.

My Vegas story - I went for the first time last August, and I only went
there to drop off a friend on the way from San Fransisco to Salt Lake
City (so only spent one night and most of one day).
I gambled all of $5, and won $75 (I won the $75 from a 25c stake on a
slot machine). I stopped when I got the $75. Taxi and hotel paid for
with a 25c stake :-)

twice.

Yep, we stopped there for gas on the way back east yesterday, on our way to
eventually spending the night in Kansas City. It was a nice place, with
good folks.
We made it back safe and sound today, after a great week, with only a few
adventures to report. I hope to have some time to write everything up one
of these days...unless Jim beats me to it!

I'll write about it... Oh, wait! I got bumped by Jay's kids! :-)
Too bad too...
I had (#14) N'west State picked to beat (#3) Iowa. I would have made a
killing - $$$$$ - in Vegas. <g>
