$15 billion to expand O'Hare.
Dang, just think of how many GA airports that much $$$ could
rejuvenate!

I'm waiting for Skylune to jump on this thread and rant about the

In the case of O'Hare, I might be inclined to agree with him.
After what he did to Meigs, King Daley and his Democratic Machine
should pay every dime of that $15 billion O'Hare expansion bill.

Indeed. Why are we wasting money on an airport for a city that obviously
feels such an excess in capacity that it can vandalize one overnight into
uselessness?

Just think of how much of that $$$ is going to wind up in the pockets of
Daley's political cronies.

Skylune's issue seems to be subsidizing GA.
Chicago has to be the most GA unfriendly place on the planet.

The first bid for major work came in way over budget. They sent it back out
for bid again. Wonder what the final cost will be.

I realize this, I'm just curious to see if he'd have anything to say
over a multi-billion dollar subsidy to aviation in geneal. As far as
your second thought, I agree.

Chicago has some nice airports, just not Midway or O'Hare.
There is no room to expand those airports, they are
surrounded. If they can do a Japan type construction
project, build an island miles off shore, just east of where
Miegs used to be. No problems with interference with the
other airports, just build a 6 lane car bridge and a rail
line.

Chicago tore up the GA airport for 'security' reasons, then ask to expand
O'hare.
DC is aviation unfriendly, not limited to GA.
Coming back from a bachelor party in New Orleans, my brother woke up as the
plane started descending into National Airport. He decided he needed to use
the toilet and started to get up. He slept through the announcement that
NOBODY could get up during the last 1/2 hour of the flight. Fortunately, his
two friends (one on each side) were able to keep him down until he
understood that we weren't kidding.

Really, have you looked at the Chicago sectional lately?
Those are the BIG airports the airlines serve, but there are
other airports that serve biz-jets and puddle-jumpers in the
Chicago area.

Yes, I looked at a Chicago sectional as recently as last Saturday.
Key word...area. You initially left out that key word. Details, details,
details.

But not in Chicago.

As a taxpayer, why would I support that? Daly would go along with it
to get the money input, and the crony labor contract. But what's to
keep him from bulldozing that too? After all, there's no way to build
it so far out (and ruin part of the lake) that it isn't "a danger" to
Daly (read: a benefit to him to have it vandalized).

Given that "aviation" is paying for the expansion, in the form of
landing fees, pax. fac. fees, and
FAA grants, no "subsidy" is being provided. Unlike, say DuPage County
Airport for example.
Its scary that some people have such a poor handle on aviation finance
issues, yet claim to have pilot's licenses.
