View Full Version : Ventus 2 wing wheel

The factory wing wheel for my V2C is having some lateral stability
issues. The cuff has the nice feature of allowing the flaperon to move,
but after moving the glider even short distances, the wheel cocks badly
to one side or another. Does anyone have any suggestions for modifying
this design so it behaves less hazardly?

Several of us have noted this problem. Worse still, the hinge on the
top surface of the wing can "ding" the surface as it is levered
sideways.

The obvious fix is to mod the wheel so that it becomes castoring -
lateral forces will then straighten the wheel instead of flexing the
wing. I have already discussed this with one of our ASA engineers and
have a sketch for a mod, but haven't done anything yet.

Or you guys could order one of Mark Mocho's which are rock solid and
work great! www.mmfabrication.com I'm pretty sure he has a couple
ready for the V2.

2NO, if you would like, we could whip something up pretty quick to
provide some lateral support for the wheel, such as two lateral braces
that would attach to the outside edge of the cuff, and extend down
close the the wheel fork. Let me know, GAP...

Karl's design sounds quite similar to what I had in mind for my Discus
wheel - get the drawings and we'll have GW take a look at how easy the
mod could be done.
