View Full Version : Who uses this plane?

On my fuel stop on the way to PJY, I spotted this Beech 1900:
http://www.alioth.net/pics/Pinckneyville-2006/Pinckneyville-2006-Pages/Image2.html
It has a 'United States of America' logo (a bit like the B747 that gets
used for Air Force One) but it has *no* N number indicating it's not a
civilian plane. It was a Pine Bluff, AR. on Friday. It looked like
whoever was travelling on it was at least going to play golf on their
trip. There were no NOTAMs or TFRs surrounding the aircraft so I'm
assuming whoever it/they were was not someone in the upper echelons of
government, but high enough to get ferried arround in an official United
States of America aircraft.

Black and gold trim... looks like the United States Army.
B1900 is possibly an upgrade from the Sweringen Sewer Pipe.

Which sounds plausible, but the description in the FAA registry for that N
number yields a description that describes a single engine plane:

Unfortunately the 60112 is the military designation for public aircraft (IE
Military). It is not a registration N-number.

True enough. But the aircraft type that comes up on FlightAware is
the same type of plane. That is at odds with the N number in the
FAA database. There's probably a different prefix used. For example,
the WB-57 I was tracking a couple months ago was "NASA928" even
though all that's on the tail is "928".

Just curious --
Does the military still use the year the a/c was ordered as the first two
digits of the tail number?.. as in "1960" in this example (or maybe just the
first digit? as in "nineteen something-ty six")....followed by a serial
number? (This plane looks too young to be 1960.)

"6" could/would be the last digit in the year of manufacture, and "0112" the
last part of the serial number to keep the digits to "5", it is a military
aircraft, and you can be assured that when flying it uses a SAM or other
"callsign", plus it's flight number and not it's "registration" number

Probably some 3 star General. There is a military installation in Pine Bluff
Military flight aren't listed on flight aware normally.
Database is screwed up

The C-12J is the militarized 1900. It's used for transport and some
flight testing.
