If any of you are considering buying a Garmin GPS find out about their
tech support first. The backlight on my Garmin went out and I emailed
Garmin to ask how to change the light.
Their response:
"From what you describe, the unit is not working properly. I have set
up Return Material Authorization (RMA) for you to send your GPS to
GARMIN for repair. The flat rate of repair on this unit will be
$200.00 . Please include payment in box."

I think they use Psychiatrists to change the bulbs.

Only if the bulbs *want* to change.

The fact that Garmin uses a flat rate repair policy (like many other
manufacturers these days) has been analyzed by Aviation Consumer a few
months back. An interesting piece.

Imagine you had a serious damage and could say "Wow, only 200 bucks"...

Frankly, I'm not sure what to think of such a policy, but I'm leaning
towards not liking it.
