View Full Version : Jim Weir, Yagi Antenna

Hello Jim,

this is an eMail from Germany, from a non-American reader of kitplanes.
My name is Bernie and I'm aeronautical engineer with almost no clue
about high frequency electronic things like antennas.
So I have a few questions regarding your article:
- what is a #10 copper wire (in diameter or in cross seqional aerea) ?
- If I nestle a 1/2 inch wide copper tape around a 1/4 inch diameter
dowel the tape does not build a closes tube. Is that right?
- If I understand your figure 1 "the coaxial balun assembly" right I
see no connection from the inner coaxial conductor to any element of
the antenna. Is that right?

I would be very glad if you could halp me to get the antenna right.

Thank you very much in advance.

Kind regards

Bernie

"#10" refers to a standard known as "American Wire Gauge". Google for
"wire gauge table" and you should turn up the statistics you need.
Cross-section is very close to 10,000 'circular mils', so the wire
diameter is 0.10 inches, within 2%.
