View Full Version : Headset Audio Interface recommendations

All,

I am looking for a good audio interface to listen to XM radio in club
aircraft (they have basic intercoms, but no aux inputs). I've seen the
one sporty's is pushing for cell phones. Does anyone know how well
this thing works?

Will it drop the music when ATC calls? (that would be good)

Will it drop the music when one of my pax says something? (that would
be bad) Will my pax even be able to hear the music?

I have a stereo David-Clark headset, but I am not sure if the intercoms
are stereo. Is the music going to be at least "OK"? I recently took a
ride in an SR22 w/ XM and bose headsets.. the music was really great
and added to a fun VFR flight. I know it won't be as good with an
older intercom and non-bose headset, but I would like to try.

Any other recommendations for similar setups?

Well, you definitely need stereo inputs to enjoy the music. I am not
sure if the cell adaptors have stereo. My first recommendation would be
to get a headset with music input, like the Lightspeeds have. If you go
with a portable intercom, it would still have to be stereo.

Music inputs normally are muted with ATC traffic. I am not sure about a
cell phone input, though.
