this flight?

It was probably unwise to let him walk. There would have been a very
good chance of a spinal injury that would've been made much worse by
letting him walk. Like Hoover's accident when he got a fractured spine
which he didn't discover till much later.

You are right. What impressed me is that he wasn't killed immediately. The
airframe in that thing must be fairly hardy. Though after looking at it a
second time I think he was ejected from the aircraft there at the end.

Also, on the Kompress, the instrument panel is between the pilot's legs.
Hitting that probably kept him from getting impaled on the cyclic, though...
