2006 Region 8 Soaring Championships
Ephrata, Washington
June 29, 2006 - Day 4
Greetings from Ephrata where the temperature has dropped further and
unfortunately the sky is still obscured by high cirrus.
Our pilots meeting was held at 10:00 am as usual where Stuart Larimore
provided us with some safety information on control hook ups on older
gliders and gave us some personal examples of why positive control
checks need to be performed. Steve Northcraft (Cloudy) then gave us a
weather briefing where he passed along the bad news that our cirrus was
here to stay for the day. Based on the weather our task committee
decided to again cancel the day due to weather.
On a happier note, all of the forecasts are calling for excellent
soaring weather both tomorrow and Saturday so we all have our fingers
crossed - along with legs, arms, eyes, etc. Meanwhile most of the
pilots have been spending the extra time resting up, sightseeing at Dry
Falls or Lake Lenore as well as attempting to correct numerous computer
problems with the expert help of our resident computer guru, Dr. Alex
Kain.
