Helicopters aren't suppose to do that ;)

I knew that model helicopters can do those things, but I thought it
was outside the realm of full size aircraft.
For all you rotor-heads out there ----
Does this have something to do with a rigid rotor head assembly on the
bird?

Well put. I always felt helicopter flight was a bit of an unnatural
act.

Definition of a helicopter: A set of spare parts flying in formation.

The clip only reinforces the old adage that helicopters only fly because
they are so ugly the Earth repels them
Jake
PS I am the first to admit the prettiest site I ever saw was a helo hovering
over me in the North Irish Sea.

Its so much more than that - the things are like sports cars that will
immediately crash the moment you take your hands off the steering
wheel. Let go of a control column in any aircraft, and it will
continue to fly, waiting for your next input. Let go of the 'one man
band' collection of controls in most heloes and it begins its search
for the closest bit of terrain.

There is that. :)

Local Mercy Flight ?
At Dak To a Pink Panther came in with a wounded gunner.
I looked and thought he was Ok, I seen the *exit wound out of the top of his
thigh, small hole no big deal after I opened the canopy and we took him
down.
Later I see half his butt was shot off, the exit was an entrance ! They
where
flying the Cobra inverted and took a round !
Now that can't be done right ?

Sorta wrong. H-1s (and perhaps other helos) can do barrel rolls, where
there is always positive rotor loading. Not for the faint of heart or short
of skill, since it's fairly easy to screw it up and fall out of the sky.

I know they did, after all I seen his wound, but many would say no you
can't.
I *think its a Pink Panther also in Kline's painting, it was shot in half
yet made a perfect landing. A SAM or B-40 hit it. The tail was knocked off.
Another impossible feat.
