Are there no several thousands of unused FEMA trailers paid for with
taxpayer dollars still sitting in fields in Lousiana and Mississippi?

Nope. They're all spoken for!
Luckily, I happen to have an available (Air Conditioned) AirVenture
"Housing" option:
Sat night (22nd) thru Wed night (26th).
5 nights
Air Conditioned (newly renovated) Taylor Hall
2 miles from the field - I'll have a minivan.
I get one bed. Other bed + floor space is open.

"Taylor Hall was recently renovated and now includes air conditioning,
private dressing areas in each shower, and brand new furniture in every
room. Rooms in this hall are $70 per night. For 2006, this hall is FULL and
the waiting list for Taylor Hall is now closed; however, reservation
requests will be taken for 2007 starting on July 13, 2006."
