translating rights ( Kai Gertsen's article on Cross Country )

Hi all,

I've come across a recent (2005) update on Kai's article on Cross
Country. I shared it with my folks over in madrid (www.clubom.org, you
are invited to come in...) and they love it. However, they are
requesting a translation. In spain, not everyone can fully understand
english.

I do not know if I have the right or not to take Kai's article and
translate, but in any case, I'd like to have Kai's explicit permission.
Rather than trying to find his email, I though of posting this on the
newsgroup.

Surely Kai, or some of his friends will be reading this and post an
affirmative reply

I have Kai's great articles on cross country flying and off airport
landings posted on our club web site. Kai gave me premission to use
them last year. Here's a link:

From Kai's XC questions and answers:

3) Best L/D speed would be the best to fly when

a) thermaling
b) flying to a landing field in a headwind
c) flying to a landing field in a tailwind
d) flying to a landing field in a crosswind

D - When flying in calm air or a crosswind, we need to use the best L/D
speed to get the maximum distance for loss of altitude

This is an interesting question because none of the answers are correct
IMHO. A and B are right out, of course. You could argue that answer C is
the closest answer. Answer D would be close if the crosswind was low.
But, if the xwind is say, 30kts, you still have a +20kt headwind component.

I have been in touch with Kai, he is recovering from a recent back
operation.

Kai asked me to pass on that he is not responsible for the questions
and answers.

The articles/booklets on Cross Country Soaring are his work and he is
happy for them to be used and/or translated with the appropriate
credits, however Kai did not compile any questions and answers to be
used with his booklets.
