Dear All,
I wish to let you know that meteorologist Plinio Rovesti died on July
10th.
He has been a pioneer in world gliding. Many pilots have studied
gliding meteorology on one of his books, and the many articles he has
written for italian and foreign magazines.
He spent a lot of his time in Argentina, during the '50s, among the
firsts to study and predict wave formation.
He has joined the CSVVA in Calcinate (Varese, Italy); founded the
italian gliding magazine "Volo a Vela" in 1946; then moved to Rieti as
the director of the National Gliding Centre www.aeccvv.it
He provided forecasts for all the competitions in Rieti up to the WGCs
of 1985.
Beyond his outstanding scientific knowledge, his style and attitude
towards life and gliding were a model for us all.
He gave much more to the sport than he has ever taken.
Thank you, Plinio.
