Norman J. Crabtree
CRABTREE Norman J. Crabtree, age 80, of Columbus, on Friday, July 21,
2006 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Retired after 29 years with the
Ohio Department of Transportation, Deputy Director for Aviation. Former
instructor at Ohio University and The Ohio State University, and aviation
advisor at Miami University and Columbus State. Veteran U.S. Army Air
Corp, WWII, 8th Air Force, 2nd Air Division, 453 Bomb Group, England;
Ohio and Michigan Air National Guard; USAF. Longtime and highly
respected consultant and advisor to the FAA and NTSB. Member of the
Experimental Aircraft Assn, U.S.A.F. Assn., AOPA and Boy Scouts of
America. Norm was a lifelong aviator and committed many years to the
development and support of civil aviation, numerous aviation
organizations and air shows around the world. Graduate of Ohio
University with both a Bachelors and Master's degrees, and a member of
Sigma Chi Fraternity. Preceded in death by parents Roy and Ellen
Crabtree, twin brother Hayden. Survived by beloved wife of 46 years,
Jetta "Jeri" Crabtree; son, Stephen Crabtree; sisters, Fern Lennon and
Barbara (David) Weltner; nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call
2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 North
High Street, Worthington, where Funeral Service will be held 11:30 a.m.
Thursday, July 27, 2006. Mr. Andrew Hoover, Funeral Celebrant. Interment
with military honors at Union Cemetery. Contributions may be made to a
