View Full Version : Metatrivia: Third highest ever posts to r.a.p happened last month.
Jim Logajan
October 3rd 06, 08:43 PM
According to Google's count, there were 6149 posts to this group last
month, more than in any other month except September, 2001 (which saw 9341
posts due no doubt to discussions about the 9/11 attacks) and September,
2005, which saw 6262 posts, according to Google's counters.
Source for the numbers came from here:
http://groups.google.com/group/rec.aviation.piloting/about?hl=en
(Also according to Google's count, Ron Natalie and Peter Duniho seem to
have top honors with the most all-time posts under a past(?) (Ron) and
current(?) (Peter) e-mail address and mxsmanic posted the most during the
last month. On the other hand, it looks like George Patterson posted from
two e-mail addresses that if combined would have placed him second by this
point in time. All useless trivia, I know!)

And unfortunately, rarely has so much been said by so many about so
little...
I use a "rule" based on message subject to killfile uninteresting posts. I
start a new one every month and delete an older one to keep things
manageable.
September's killfile was the largest I've ever had...

I'll point out, however, that there are at least two email addresses listed
for Jay Honeck in the all-time top-ten. If you add just those two together,
he comes in second. Unless, of course, you also add together the two
addresses for George that you noted, in which case Jay winds up third, and I
fourth.
Of course, if there are addresses for any of those people outside the
top-ten and different from those in the top-ten, those could affect the
results as well.
One wonders how many other r.a.piloting folks have posted under multiple
email addresses, and thus deserve a higher placement on the all-time list
than those who are actually shown.
Mostly what the list shows is that Ron and I have kept the same email
address the longest. :)

Those figures have to be incorrect. Jay can't be wrong:

but (in case you haven't noticed) the posting group has recently
shrunk to historically low numbers.

As I think someone else pointed out, many posts, but not as much said,
and by fewer posters.

So you retract your "shrunk to historically low numbers" statement
then?

Interesting numbers. I would have bet $100 that posts were DOWN last
month -- but I guess it's just that *good* posts were at a historically
low number...
All I seem to recall about Septemer is a zillion posts blasting some
dude named MXMANIAC (or something like that) -- and not much else.

Isn't that the truth. I wish everyone would get over the novelty of MX, and
start ignoring him, so he would move on. The amount of effort it takes to
ignore all the responses to his posts did nothing for me, except waste my time.
Is it time for everyone to add a "MX" in the subject line, so that those who
wish can make an addition to our filters, (much like has been done in other rec.
aviation groups for annoying posters) to ignore all of the subject posts made
with him involved?
Please? !!!

It doesn't work. We ignored you for weeks, and yet you returned. :-)

The thread about massive GA subsidies had lots of interesting data on
actual capital outlays, amount of revenue derived from AV gas taxes
(about 5% of trust fund), etc.
