View Full Version : 503 part name

What is the official name of the part I would call the stator or
magneto housing for a free-air cooled 503 engine? This part would
replace the typical part called the Fan Housing, but DOES NOT have all
the extra casting meant to hold the forced-air cooling fan... it's
just a simple spacer ring cover instead. I know these exist, at least
for a similarly configured 447, because a friend has one installed on
their 447 and it is definitely a factory original part as it has
"Rotax" cast in raised letters.

I can easily find what's called the "Fan Housing" that sells for the
outrageous price of $435 (canadian? from ultralight.com), but have no
idea how to locate the piece free of the fan support and how much it
would be. I shutter to think it too would be in the multi-hundreds of
dollars and why.

Any help out there?

Thanks.

The housing that contains the ignition components for a free air Rotax
503 is called an "Ignition Housing". The Part No. is 910-417. The
price is $276.68 in the LEAF catalog found here:

Thanks, John! That's the one. Price is still too hefty for an 8 ounce piece of mass
produced thin cast aluminum. I doubt anyone would respond if I put out a call for a used
one, but I guess it won't hurt to ask, so... anyone have a trashed/parts-only free air
version 447 or 503 with this part 910-417 Ignition Housing they want to sell for Best Offer?

Hmmm... just a tad overpriced, eh? So, anybody know of someone that
does free-air to fan cooled conversions and has one of these collars
waiting for a buyer? Remember, need the E version for CDI ign.

There are at least 3 fan housings on ebay right now each for less than
$100. Could you buy a fan housing and then cut off the parts you don't
want?

None for a 503 and all were from points ign engines (no CDI pickup
"pods").

I have located and bought a cut-down fan housing with the CDI "pods"
for $85 inc shipping as ignition housings are either too rare, or when
they exist are too expensive.

Thanks for the assistance.
