View Full Version : Nimbus down?

November 21st 06, 12:01 AM
A friend said that he received an e-mail from an Argentine pilot who
said that a Nimbus 4 went down in the Andes. Has anyone heard any
further news? I hope this is not the case. There has been far too
much of this lately.

Yes, too many.
There was an accident involving a Nimbus 4DM.
Below I copy what I received from an austrian friend.
From another friend, I heard that it was a typical ridge accident: the
wingtip might have impacted the ridge in straight flight. The day
allowed only thermal and ridge flying. The glider was at about 7000ft,
and the airport was within gliding range.
The fuselage has been destroyed by fire after the crash.

a very, very sorry accident.

"I have to inform you that Helmut Bammer died in a soaring accident in
Argentine yesterday. He was on a flight with
Wolfgang Zarl, who was national champion several times.
Helmut himself was national champion in 18m class for the
first time this year.(decentralized, distance competition)
We all lost a good friend. We will miss his kind character as well as
his engagement for gliding in austria and europe.
Our thoughts are with his wife and his little son. "
