Well, my friend said 'I had it, but gave it away years
ago. Not sure where it went.'
So, here is what I would do. Visit:
http://www.faa.gov/licenses%5Fcertificates/aircraft%5Fcertificatio
n/aircraft%5Fregistry/
The link will probably not come over complete, so you
will need to finish it up.
Look down a ways and under Records and Reports, you
will find 'Request Copies of Records' and 'online'.
You can enter the Registration Number and Serial Number.
They will then ask for your address, etc. You can
order it on CD for about $6.25
Or, you can call the Registration Branch of the FAA
at 405-954-3116. Be prepared to be on hold for 5-10
minutes. Give them the registration number, and when
they tell you it is something other than the plane
you are looking for, tell them it was something else
before that. Give them the model number or some other
details, and they can narrow down on your airplane
of interest.
I have gotten records of airplanes that went off the
registry in the late 1920s, so I am sure they will
have something for you. Serial Number with the FAA
was SHK-100. It was registered to Robert Kirby of
Santa, Ynez, California. FAA's Make and Model Code
was 05603V9. According to the Mircofiche records I
have. From what I have seen in the past, it got de-registered
sometime before 1986 (my earliest microfiche), most
likely due to failure to return the trienial report
(that was a major sin against humanity and the FAA
back then!).
Oh, and the contact was Ron Tabery. I still have not
found the copies of the Used Sailplane List to get
the date. If it was only 15 years ago, it might have
returned to California after its trek to Texas.
Keep searching. It is fun, and pretty cheap to find
out what happened to some of these neat planes.
