I just tried to go to John Leibacher's http://soaring.aerobatics.ws/
turn point exchange web site and all I get is some sort of bogus get
rich quick scheme.

What's up with that? John not pay his ISP bill? Let's hope that all
those files aren't toast.

It's not the only site that it's happening to. If you go to the SRA
site http://sailplane-racing.org/
and click on Pilot Rankings you get some financial ad.

This link is working:

It appears that the mirror sites for the main turn point web site are
still ok.

http://soaring.xinqu.net/JL/TP/
http://soaring.gahsys.com/TP/

Whew!

On the positive side, the bogus ads LOOK GREAT!

Looks like http://sailplane-racing.org/ is back up.

Going in from the SRA site
the pilot ranking list is kaput too.

I just got off the phone with the folks at the registry and they assure
me that things will be unhonked within 24 hours... Apologies for the
inconvenience, and thanks to those of you who brought this directly to
my attention. As a couple of posters pointed out, we have two mirror
sites in addition to aerobatics.ws to guard against precisely this sort
of "eventuality": http://soaring.xinqu.net/ and
http://soaring.gahsys.com/ They have identical content and the only
slight differences are related to the fact that the search and
collection programs run only on aerobatics, but that does not effect
the direct delivery of any of the content.

While I'm posting here, the US Pilot Ranking List has been updated for
all of the 2006 contests. Please let me know if you see any glitches -
there around bound to be some unfortunately. And thanks to those
contest organizers who posted final scores with the pilots SSA numbers,
that saves *many* hours of hand editing try to match up pilots with
their SSA numbers.

be safe out there, and keep the suggestions coming,

http://sailplane-racing.org/ ==> pilot ratings ==> ends up pointing to
http://soaring.aerobatics.ws/PRL/ which is still John's core site and
is still being affected by the same cretins that has been mentioned
earlier.

I did some research. It appears that the ISP for
http://soaring.aerobatics.ws is "Global Domains International". If you
look at the bottom of the get-rich-quick schemes, this company is the
instigator.

What we are seeing may be "filler" when the server that contains the
John's web site's HTML code (content) is down. IMHO, the ISP should
put up a generic "we are down, come back later" filler page so that a
witch hunt doesn't ensue. Redirecting to some lame advertising is
truly bogus. BTW, the advertising seems to be a plan to sell dot-ws
domain addresses.

Late breaking news. The http://www.aerobatics.ws/ web site hierarchy
now points to a filler page that states "Under Construction - The
domain (WWW.AEROBATICS.WS) is currently under construction - Click here
to contact the domain owner". The page still has a ton of advertising
but its better than what it was. This group of ISP owners are really a
trip.

Clicking on "contact the domain owner" produces an error "ERROR:
Invalid Sponsor Username (owner_contact.dhtml)". Great, just great.

The domain expired and is available for purchase on
http://website.ws/released.dhtml

The email address the domain whois refers to is gei#cfa.harvard.edu.

Is this a valid email address for John L?
note I swapped the @ for a #.

They're "still working on it", and the domain hasn't been "sold off" or
"hijacked", it's a problem with the folks who run the "registry". Just
bookmark

soaring.gahsys.com [ thank you! Glen Holden ]
and
soaring.xinqu.net [ thank you! Philip Plane ]

if any of the three go south for any reason. Things continue to be
updated on the sites -
the Argentine Nationals turnpoints, Region 12 flight logs, and the PRL
were all updated in the last 24 hours.

apologies for the inconvenience,

John Leibacher

After half a dozen phone calls where they assured us that there was
just a little mixup with the registration of the aerobatics.ws domain
name, registry.com now says that they have lost the aerobatics.ws
domain name, they don't know how to get it back, and they'll send back
the renewal fee which they received in July - I leave it to the gentle
reader to form their own impression of the competence and
professionalism of these ....

Guenther Eichhorn has secured a new domain name ( from a different
provider, in case you didn't guess) http://soaringweb.org

Apologies for the inconvenience and many thanks to Guenther, and the
mirror site providers Philip Plane (soaring.xinqu.net) and Glenn Holden
(soaring.gahsys.com). Make sure that you have all three server
addresses bookmarked.

Best wishes for a great, safe 2007,

John Leibacher
