Do they accept GA aircraft?
Are there landing fees?
Can anyone recommend an FBO friendly to visiting small aircraft?

If not Teterboro, what is the best option for landing somewhere whilst
visiting the city?

Thanks a lot

Yes.

Yes, but the last time I was there the FBO I used waived the FBO fee if I
bought a minimum amount of 100LL fuel at their high prices. There is also
a Port Authority fee that you will receive in the mail a month or two
later, but that is relatively small (US $10 or so).

I used to use Millionare weekly and they were very friendly to me as they
slid my credit card through their machine <G>, but I believe that they
renamed to Meridian Teterboro. I also used Signature for Angel Flight
patient pick-ups and drop-offs, but that waived the landing fees for me.

Go here if you haven't already to read of others' experiences:

Another option is to land at Westchester/White Plains where it will be
cheaper, but from what I read the commute into the city will be 45 minutes
or so by train.

Assuming you are not arriving during early morning weekday rush, TEB is
only 15-20 minutes into Manhattan by NJ Transit bus, or 25 minutes by train
with one connection required.

The train is quick but the cab to the train station is expensive, and
the bus to the train is slow.

The closest train stations are Valhalla, North White Plains or White
Plains, on the Harlem Line of Metro-North rail road (www.mta.info). A
round-trip, off-peak ticket to Manhattan is $12.50.

You can take the Bee-Line municipal bus service (route #12) from the
White Plains train station to HPN for $1.75 but it'll take you 40
minutes.

KLDJ is also close to New York. The train is not too far from the airport
(though I'd take the 5 minute taxi ride over the walk unless the weather
were nice). The train is a quick and frequent trip into Manhattan.

It's a small, small-GA-friendly airport. I've never seen a jet there. At
TEB, on the other hand, bad luck can line you up behind a long queue of
jet-A-burners. When I last flew there (a couple years ago) a gate hold
was possible.

KLDJ doesn't even have a gate <laugh>.

The down side of KLDJ is that it can take slightly longer than forever to
get a departure clearance for an IFR departure from 9. I've been told
that it's quicker to get cleared for a 27 departure. But on my one
attempt to do that, KEWR tower never even answered on the radio (I took
off VFR and picked up a clearance in the air from TRACON).

KLDJ also has expensive fuel, but *nothing* like what's being charged at
TEB. I challenge the statement that TEB is small-GA-friendly based on the
100LL price alone.

Less close (more like HPN) is KCDW. At least one FBO there (Mac Dan)
rents cars. There are bus and train from the area into Manhattan, but
they're not immediately proximate to the airport. I've been told that the
FBOs will give one a lift, but I've never tried this myself.

I go into TEB 5 times a month (at least) with a business jet, and I can
tell you personally that while small GA is perfectly accepted, you'd
better be on your A-game there; they don't like mistakes and they like
you to keep it as fast as possible to keep up with the bizjets. TEB is
one of the busiest business aviation hubs in the US.

If you're looking for easier access to the city, try Caldwell, NJ.
(http://www.airnav.com/airport/KCDW) I believe that it's only 25
minutes or so to the city, and they are MUCH friendlier to GA then TEB.
The gas is cheaper also, and it's much more relaxed... the way GA
should be. We actually ask our clients to use CDW instead of TEB to
stay away from the congestion there.

Use KLDJ

Linden. MUCH MUCH cheaper, only landing fee no service, ramp, parking,
shake-your-hand fees.

Cab ride to train station is $6 then 25 mins to Penn Station by NJ Transit.
