Has anyone had this happen? I have a buyer for my plane, he bought the
AOPA's title search to make sure there were no liens and everything . I did
the same when I bought the plane. There were no liens.I paid cash so there
were no problems. He decided to finance the plane and the bank is saying the
two people before me (both financed) their banks have not removed the liens.
I talked to the broker who I got it from and he sent me both banks release
forms. My question is what is his bank coming up with? Could his bank be
making a mistake?

If the banks didn't file their release then they will still show up. If
you have the release forms then pass them on.

Does the AOPA title search have any Title Insurance as part of the program?

It happened when I bought my plane. The guy two owners before the guy I
bought it from had a loan which had been paid off but not released. Took
15 minutes on hold, a 5 minute conversation, and a fax to get it cleared
up. No big deal.

When I bought my Mooney AOPA sold the title insurance separate from the
title fee.

I don't understand why these old liens wouldn't show up on a title search,
though. Isn't that something for which such searches check?

Yes and I am going to ask the AOPA for my money back. The title company said
the aopa search is very inaccurate and it happens all the time. Its is going
to get cleared but it is taking some time. I am glad the buyer spent quite a
bit of money doing appraisals and prebuys or he would probably of backed
out.
