I welcome comment on the following combination of instrument. One audio

I doubt you'll get any useful replies unless you say both what you fly
and what sort of flying you plan to do.

You proposed setup is overkill for local flying and probably inadequate
for contest flying. I'm assuming of course that you also plan to have
an ASI, compass, and altimeter.

Assuming basic instrumentation--ASI, Compass, ALT, Radio.

A GPS/Logger i.e.--Volkslogger or Camb M20 or other similar, and a PDA
(Compaq 1550 or iPAQ) and software (Winpilot ADV , See You Mobile, or Glide
Nav II) can give you everything you need but Audio Speed Command. I know
that GNII can give a "target speed" for the McC setting, and WP ADV gives a
small speed command bar. This would be more than adequate for entry level
contest flying----i.e. Regionals

An audio "speed command" is useful to get your eyes outside, and wake you
when you should be doing something different.

Your proposed system can be nicely adapted to become a "portable" system and
fly in different club gliders. Make sure you get a good anti-glare shield
for the PDA--Boxwave "ClearTouch" is a good one--I'm sure there are
others -- don't get a Fellows Write-Right (sp?) unless you like bubbles!

All of what you propose can become peart of a more sophisticated sytem as
your experience grows.

Sooner or Later--you'll want an evaluation program for your laptop---See You
or Strepla allow post-flight analysis and task planning.

Thank Hartley,
I need to repair my LX 5000, 1000 euros+. So for the same money, I can
get a EW logger, PDA and CU mobile to go with my CU laptop. And all I
will miss is speed to fly. LX make great instrument but you have to
send everything to SI. I need to think about this.
