Have a great time in Peru.

If you end up having a few cold ones with the locals, don't drink from the
bottle. They'll hand you a glass in a minute.

Did you ever get any more information about the G1000 issues you wrote
up on your ferry flight?

I attended a presentation by a pilot who ferried a PA28 from the US to
South Africa back in the '80's. At the time, there were the usual civil
wars across Africa. He was unfortunate enough to get shot down over
Angola and spent some time in a rebel military prison. Some of his
fellow inmates were mercenaries. The most interesting part of his talk
was about food aversions. It seems the only things to eat where those
that you could catch. Rats were plentiful, but one fellow just could not
bring himself to eat them.

Would you route through Azores for that flight?

That rings a bell. I used to live at Lajes back in the early 60's. Beautiful
place. My dad was flying air rescue looking for guys like NW_Pilot who might
have had problems ferrying aircraft across.

57th Air Rescue Squadron, Lajes Field, Teciera Island, Azores, Portugal. Them
were the days.

That's what I'd be afraid of. ;)

Have you got any good firsthand accounts of interesting missions from
those days you'd care to share with the group?

Mort, do yourself, your family and all of us a favor... sit down with
him with a videocam roll and have him tell his stories.
Thank you in advance.

Here are my proposed routs for the next 30 to 45 days but with ferrying and
crossing the pond "weather" can force a more northerly route or big delays!

See if you can extend your Peruvian trip down to Nazca. The Nazca lines are
awesome from the air.

That would suck, A fellow ferry pilot that I converse with has some good war
stories he did it for about 40 years!

Each trip I have done I will remember it for a long long time.

I must admit to some amazement over your courage in meeting the
challenges of these trips with long over water legs. I hope you are
being compensated commensurate not only with the significant
aeronautical risks involved in transatlantic operations, but also with
the not insignificant political uncertainties in some of the
countries. Surely your ferrying fee is not based on distance alone.

Just out of curiosity, what would the fee be for the South Africa trip
you have charted?

I was thinking the same, having seen "Last King of Scotland" last
weekend (Idi Amin story) and figure the last 1/3 of your route takes
you over some pretty politically unstable territory. How available is
100LL in that area?
