It was later reported FAA inspectors from the Juneau FSDO cited the
eagle for flying over gross and out of CG, as well as dropping an
object endangering those on the ground. The (slightly toasted) eagle's
defense that he was "Just looking to get some head" didn't wash with
the feds...

This is why criticizing a pilot's temporary lapse of judgment is so
dangerous. Even birds screw up sometimes. Best we can do is learn from each
others' mistakes.

He made it up to the power lines. I find that amazing in and of itself.

Some 135 operators up here are allowed to increase gross weight by 10 or 15
percent, but I bet that eagle was well over that. He was probably operating
under part 91 anyway, so a gross weight increase is not allowed.

I fly over gross part 91! My next trip over the pond I am going to be
pushing 30% over.

Well, that is the explanation. The eagle was just taking on extra fuel for a
long overwater!
