Judging from that photo, she should hook up with Nick Nolte. They
would make a great couple...

I thought the psychological screening for astronaut selection would have
washed out anyone who lost their cool under stress. I wonder how it missed
this example?

That's a rapid change. She was a mission specialist only last year.

Reminds me of Margot Kidder's meltdown years ago, without the
kidnapping charge of course...

TCAS. Cool.

What is this "wearing a diaper so she doesn't have to stop in the 12-
hr drive" thing? Does she have a long range tank in her car? :-P

But I believe Margot Kidder's issue was a chemical imbalance caused by
not taking her meds. I'm sure that condition would prevent holding a
class 3 medical, and likely prevent you from being in the space
program.

That's what I was wondering too, but then, I'm not smart enough to be a
astronaut. I'm now trying to figure out the Attempted Murder charge... BB
gun? 4" knife? Steel mallet? pepper spray? or did she try it in the
parking garage with the rubber hose and $600 cash? NASA version of CLUE?

True: It happened in "satellite parking"...

Agreed, unless her mental issues didn't manifest themselves until later;
Howard Hughes being a classic example.

I was thinking the same thing. She probably needed one maybe two stops
for gas and if she used a full-service station, she could make a
bathroom break before the tank was full. I suspect that she just likes
wearing diapers.

That's what happens when NASA goes Coed...

or more simply a tank that has a longer 'range' than her bladder. Not
uncommon. Might have optimized away a few additional stops...

Guns don't kill. Crazed female astronauts do. Or at least try.

NASA may want to rethink their psychological testing.

Wearing diapers is SOP for Shuttle launches, since they may end up lying on
their seats for four hours or more before the launch either goes or gets
scrubbed. Men have the option of wearing a condom/collection bag setup, but
some don't.

Mind you, the Shuttle goes farther between rest stops.....

She's an engineer!

Maybe she hooked up ferry tanks?

She was likely trying to limit her exposure to potential witnesses. If
she stopped at a rest stop and went inside, she might be recognized by
someone or picked up on a security camera. This woman was carrying cash
for all her purchases and even checked into a motel using cash. I have
no doubt she was going to kill the victim and make a run back to Houston
leaving no traces of her trip.

now that's the first explanation on the subject that makes
sense... wicked.

Yetm she still had to purchase fuel; fuel pumps take either
credit cards if you self-serve, and that's a no no in this
case; or you have to interact with a human being if you want
to pay cash... and don't self-serve fuel pump have security
cameras anyway?

I always used to park in "Satellite Parking" at BWI. I told people
my car was between explorer and sputnik.

900 miles, she had to get more fuel at least once midway, unless she
packed some cans in the trunk.

although it shouldn't be too complicated to install a 'ferry tank'
in a car; could be discreet enough in the trunk, with a remote
activated pump to refill the main tank once in a while; wouldn't
even have to stop.

Many pumps now accept bills for payment. A little slot that takes
sucks in 1s, 5s, 10s, and 20s.
