Andrew-S
December 4th 06, 02:17 AM
Hello Gang,
I have been away now for almost a year and to be honest and with no
disrespect intended towards anyone; I probably won't doing much more than
lurking for the foreseeable future. At any rate quite recently I received
several E-mails regarding my apparent "suicide" and felt that is was time
step out of the shadows. If nothing else to reassure those with whom I used
to correspond with on a regular basis that I am still alive. What follows
is a cut and paste, of several other people's cut and pastes. After
reading them I think you can understand why I felt the need to beam myself
back into the newsgroups.

>>>> I heard that Andrew S also known as "That Annoying Twit" put a gun in
>>>> his mouth and committed suicide a couple weeks ago is this true?"

>>>> "It really doesn't surprise me because someone said that he had some
>>>> really serious psychological problems.<<<<

>>>>"Rest in peace Andrew my old friend, I hope your last frames where the
>>>>best"<<<<

>>>>"I met Andrew a couple of time in person and he always seemed to be
>>>>hurting, I hope it's not true"<<<<

>>>>"I remember when he wrote "a guide" for a photographic newsgroup that I
>>>>used to hang out in. Totally ruined the group and caused a lot of
>>>>people to leave. I just wish he would have left the group and not shot
>>>>himself" <<<<

>>>>"Andrew always was a bit weird and I sort of expected it sooner or
>>>>later, good luck to you old buddy"" <<<<

Though I am not sure which newsgroup or blog the above extractions came
from, they seem to have made the rounds because of the E-mails asking me if
I am alive.... So unless there is something I need to be made aware of
real fast I am still very much alive and well.

So here now is the reality....
Though it is true I do have some health issues of a personal nature, I have
never actively thought of "shooting my last frame". Well maybe following
an air to air photo shoot that went bad on me a couple of months ago.
However those thoughts where at best fleeting, and once I settled down my
objective and obsession became how do I make the best of a bad situation.
As for what I have been up to these days??? Outside of my real job in photo
retail I still shoot, but I now shoot for money and specialize in Law
Enforcement and Rescue Services. My website is scheduled for a rebuild as
the winter months set in so don't go there however I do operate under the
name photogs-wings. My reasons for leaving the group basically dealt with
time management, because I had (and still have) so much going that I was
burning myself out with little gain. So not without a considerable amount
of regret I chose to lose this group from my list of involvements.

Following the appearance of this on my server a brief series will follow.

I hope everyone enjoyed this little series... Ironicaly I have gotten so
used to printing in large scale I am having to relearn how to scale down
images.
Something that is obvious when I went back and looked at the images that I
have just posted, it is also a skill that I had better reaquire pretty fast
for my website.

Though I will lurk and try to reply to any requests for additional info.
The old days of massive uploads are now in the distant past..

According to the official report he hung himself with his shirt.
I can't answer for any conspiracy theories or theories that when presented
sound like facts. Especial for an incident that I have only
minimal knowledge of.

What I do know is that all the officers I have worked with in what is now
close to 6 or 7 police departments are an amazing bunch.
I have seen them when they are angry and about ready to thumb tack someone,
just as I have also seen them cry when one of their own dies.
As happened in Fairfax County when two of their officers where gunned down
outside their police station. The most amazing thing is that many
of the officers where also crying about the shooter who they had to kill in
the shoot out. That in itself spoke volumes to me.

Here they are crying their eyes out for the lost officers but also crying
FOR THE PERSON WHO KILLED THEIR OFFICERS.
Whew, talk about rough I was in tears myself and all I did was print and
deliver some posters for them.

Nice series, Andrew! Too few helos on this group. Well, and hangar
queens... ;-)

Welcome back, from a longtime lurker without anything of my own to
post. I never saw any of the offending posts you mentioned, and until
just now, hadn't made a connection that you were gone. Once you mentioned
"That Annoying Twit," I said, "Oh yeah!" and stirred the memories of a
rig demolishing your car, among others.

How'd you get into the field of shooting emergency service
aircraft? Sounds like a career change I could actually enjoy, for a
change.

The attached is not my shot, but my girlfriend's, since I'm in the
right seat. She wanted to know if the Robinson was found in a cereal box
;-)

Al,
Thanks for the complements...
To be honest I wasn't offended at all. If anything it was rather funny to
me in a dark sort of way. The thing that I am most curious about is who or
how the tale started. Yes I was and perhaps still am hurting, but to say I
am suicidal??? Rather a major stretch to say the least.

As for how I got started shooting Emergency Services... A friend and fellow
shooter got me into it and I discovered that sitting on the skids at 120mph
while tracking another aircraft was great fun. IT is without a doubt the
most challenging photography I have ever done. Granted it is not for the
faint at heart but who else can say they have done an air to air shoot over
Washington DC AFTER 9/11. My passion though in aviation is and always
will be Warbirds. However there are so many shooters trying to get into that
world it is almost a deterrent.

With regards to your Robinson... I don't think I have any shots of
Robinsons in action, however I may have a shoot coming up early next spring
that may include several Robinson Helicopters. At the moment though it is
just an idea that is being considered.

Glad you are OK. Don't know where the crap came from, or who wrote it.
Anyway, stick around and post again - we've missed your pix.

Alan,
Envision my reaction to it... I have haunted several groups and blogs and I
was not even able to find the murmor of the posts. I sent replies back
asking those who e-mailed me to at least tell me who said what and where it
was posted. So far though no such luck as no one has replied. Hell for all
I know they could have been posted a year ago. No matter nothing really
offensive was said. And to be honest as I told Al it seems rather funny in
a dark sort of way...

I think something offensive *was* said - the 'S' word - with no proof
whatsoever. I thought that maybe you had simply decided not to post to this
group any more (does happen). I was disappointed with that thought, but I
felt it was your decision to make.

There have been several people here recently asking where you were, as they
had also not heard from you, but no mention of the 'S' word or anything like
it; just curiosity on their part as to your whereabouts.

Al,
I gave up years ago trying to figure out this sort of stuff... For my part
though I was not offended in the least and I even sent off an E-mail to one
of the flight crews saying I want to be called Photo Ghost. They said they
would run by the Major but not to bet on it.

Now if someone had of said "hey everyone goodnews that silly twit shot
himself". Let me find out where they live, after all SWAT guys are always
looking for new buildings to storm. Hell I will even take pictures of it
and post them at no charge. After all what's a few flash bangs, sunscopes,
flares, tazzers, k9 attack dogs, battering rams, and a 1000 or so rounds of
blank 10 guage and 9mm amoung friends. Especially at about 2:00am in the
morning!!!

Again thanks for the welcome back,

Andrew

No need - it was only included as an example. Robinsons are about the
only aircraft I *can* get routine pics of. That, and Duke Hospital's A-
109s, since I live in the flight path of their maintenance facility.

Has an admittedly slim chance of an air-to-air for a firm that sold
joyrides in Aero L-39s, but ended up having to move out of that town before
they managed to move their operations into it. Five miles from my house, of
all the rotten luck.

But hey, drop me a line if there's ever a schedule conflict ;-)

Cheers!
