G'day Dave

This Liberator (B-24J) belongs to No. 24 (B) Squadron, R.A.A.F. It operated
the type from June 1944 through to the end of the war in the Southwest
Pacifica area.

G'day Chris,

Yep, my father was in 24 Squadron from the late '50s. All the RAAF
Vultee Vengeance squadrons upgraded to B-24s around '44, talk about a
culture shock.

24 Squadron started with Wirraways at the beginning of the war, then went
through Aircobras, Spitfires, Vengeances, B-24s & post war onto P-51s and
worked with Canberras until about 1960.

When I was in Darwin for a short while in '87 I found a slab of B-24
fuselage side in a local museum's junkyard. It didn't have much to
identify it, beyond the GR.

Back in the 1980s or early '90s, there was a USAF Reserve unit (mighta been
ANG...) that transitioned from the A-37 to the C-5. Only a couple extra
engines, shouldn't have been all ~that~ much trouble...

Was it really that hard to learn to fly on the right side of the sky?

Well, here we fly on the left - of course. It got easier once the lines
were painted.
