A1: It is a Blackburn Beverley, there is a colour picture showing a full
aircraft at:-
http://www.planeboys.de/gww/raf/raf_1/beverley.htm
A2: It is not a detachable pod
It was sort of a forerunner to the Hercules but with the cargo area split
into two levels. A troop, paratrooper or freight carrier with a rough field
capability.

That is a Blackburn Beverly C1 of the Royal Air Force and no, it is not
a detachable pod.
http://www.aeroflight.co.uk/types/uk/blackburn/beverley/Beverley.htm
....will tell you almost everything you would wish to know. What it will
not tell you is, if you are paratrooping from this aircraft and you are
to be the first man out of the door on the lower deck, you can watch the
wheels go round as you trundle along at 600 to 800 feet, waiting for the
green light for "GO".

need to have sent Neill Armstrong to the Moon.........on a Hang-glider!!

By "world" you must mean (in your short sighted way) this easy livin' planet
where every leech and mosquito thrives. You can have it, I'm off to continue
my U.S. Constitutional (colonist) ways among the stars.

The Chinese and Japanese may have all the dollars, but they also have all
the pound notes and euros, so I don't see any reason for you to gloat.

Found it! Here is the Beverley in paratrooping action, showing the door
from which one can observe the bloody great wheels going round!
I must have a really good look in that drawer, considering that this
picture is over 40 years old...

And I have not seen or heard of anything British even being put on the moon.

Me thinks my comment went right over your head! :-)
It was a "wooden American boat" that beat the Brits and then held the
America's Cup for well over a century! When we did finally lose it , it
wasn't to a British boat. And as I said before, I don't recall hearing
about any British accomplishments as for as the moon is
concerned........Yanks in the same league, God, I certainly hope not. We'd
be considered failures!
