This is a snapshot from Dad's WW II album.
He had no idea of what this plane might have
been (my best guess is a Norseman). He took
the picture somewhere along the AlCan Highway,
1942-1945.

Thank you. Now that I have the machine's genus
and species, I have some information on it--a
modification of a civil aircraft, suited for take-offs
and landings at short strips. The type served
just about everywhere in the war; some were even
armed, and flew cloak-and-dagger missions
behind Japanese lines.

Actually, Stinson Model 74 O-49/L-1 Vigilant, best know by the later L-1
designation.

Actually, Stinson Model 74 O-49/L-1 Vigilant, best know by the later L-1
designation.
