Depends on the alternatives. If no museum would take
it and was otherwise headed for the scrap heap, well.......

Sadly, I have to agree with you. It's far better than seeing it scrapped but
hard to believe that some entrepenuers wouldn't front up the money to see it
restored. Easy to say when I'm not one of them :)

You said it!!

Entrepeneurs often would like to see some profit from their enterprises.
Restoring (and flying, keeping airworthy) an old bird rarely brings
money.

It costs.

HEAPS!!

So you'd be needing a few guys with lots of money to spend or a WHOLE
bunch of volunteers who spend their time and money to keep the thing up

If these things are not available, the thing don't fly.

What I don't get is why gouvernments don't do much more to save ones
countries heritage.

Cheers,

Dennis

Governments exist to serve interest groups
(teachers, the elderly, paving contractors, police)
that are all braying for more money. Historical
preservation is pretty far down on the list, sadly.

The Lancaster, pictured here, has been removed from it's pole and is
undergoing a restoration. Not sure if the restoration will return the
aircraft to airworthy status or not. This link is the Lancaster's
restoration site, but does not provide a lot of information.
