Dad was known to say that he was one of the most critical and important
personnel on the base.
He held the health and well-being of everybody in the palms of his hands.
He was one of the cooks!! :-p

I have one other in this series that I didn't think was post-worthy, I'll
scan it shortly.
I also have (somewhere) some short videos - mostly of belly landings, that
have been posted here before. Shoot me your email address and I'll dig
'em out and send them over.

What's everyone looking at? It looks like
someone nosedived into the field.

They're looking at an unusual scattering of ferrous material - of
potentially Japanese origin.

Well, it looks like a crash at least. Check out the engine and prop on the
ground, center left. Rules out augering in, I think.

my guess is: it *used* to be an aircraft.... look at the large
lump to the left side. that might be an engine.
redc1c4,
(maybe a weapons loading error?)

What is the large white "blob" in the centre that one of the soldiers is
holding. A parachute??

That would be my guess. If a plane was blown apart by a bomb, a
chute on a wing or in the cockpit couldn't be trusted anymore for life
support - but the silk would be reused elsewhere.

Could a parachute survive an explosion of that magnitude?
It appears to substantially intact.
