This photo is of a historic item not seen in decades, Notice the employees
in the front: that makes this one of the extinct "Service Stations".

Not totally extinct, this station is still in operation in Milwaukie,
outside Portland, Oregon. My dad used to stop here for gas every time we
went to my Grandfather's house to visit.

Pretty small gas station for 19 people to work in, no?

Between our tornadoes and hurricanes it
would have never lasted in Texas. Too bad,
a real eyecatcher.

I visited it in 1961, on a family trip from the Midwest through the
Northwest and crawled around inside the bomber. It was pretty well
gutted, but I understand that it has been taken down and either is being
restored or is restored to flying status.

I have to apologize. I was wrong, the station is no longer open. The
family still runs the Bomber Restaurant and Catering. The aircraft is
currently undergoing a restoration.

Not if it's everyone on the payroll. I had a summer job in a
full-service Texaco station some thirty years ago. Manager,
two mechanics, and enough attendants to pump gas, wash
windows, check-yer-oil-sir?, and do minor things like sell
new tires and take care of lube-oil-filter jobs. Plus, I'm
guessing, the ladies in the picture's front row either ran the
cash register or operated a small coffee shop.
