That tape is chilling. It has the usual earmarks of a friendly fire or
mistaken fire incident. There was uncertainty -- not much, but some.
The orange panels which they thought were rockets. Granted from FL 10
orange panels could be missiles and vice versa. However, how many
"orange missiles" have we seen deployed?
However, this is all Monday morning quarterbacking by someone who was
not there and who thanks G-d that he wasn't there.
As to the political issue of releasing the identities of the aviators,
and releasing the tape to the families, that is the government working
against itself, once again.
It is tragic but this isn't the first time and will not be the last time.
Cheers,
Dave

they were assured no friendlies were in the area. it wasn't until after
asking several times that they attacked.
then they finally tell them that there might be friendlies in the area. you
don't hear the brits speak up until the very end.
any blame should be on the ground controllers.
in 1809 the sir arthur wellesley 1st duke of wellington was asked his
opinion on what the new uniforms should look like,
he replied he didn't care as long as they didn't look like the french.
stonewall jackson was shot by confederate troops as was james longstreet,
they were the two senior corps commanders in the ANV.
the U.S.S. San Francisco shot up the U.S.S. Atlanta on 11/13/42 cusing it to
later sink.
they have and will always happen.

My point exactly Ray ... and I will add that if we didn't have ****ing
wars this **** wouldn't happen.
That is a non-political statement from a once-upon-a-time Infantryman.

I feel sorry for all involved. A poor bloke was killed, and the pilots'
lives will never be the same.

This is close to home. The A-10 pilots were local Boise pilots attached to
the Idaho Air Guard.

This seems to have been a cockup. Criminal incompetance may or may not have
been involved; that's not for me to judge. I don't, however, understand why
this one is receiving more publicity than the killing of Terry Lloyd, who
was *murdered* whilst being evacuated from the fighting in a civilian
vehicle.

You only have to read Stephen Ambrose's books to realise that for a long
time the Brits have perceived the Yanks as being too gung-ho and the Yanks
have perceived the Brits as being too cautious.
