View Full Version : NASA Astronaut Diaper chick...
Overlord
February 7th 07, 03:29 AM
Drove something like 900 miles, wearing a diaper, to kill some other
chick...
She only had like 1500 hours flight time...????
Barely more than the requirement for an ATP...
My 2... Political correctness run amok. An Astronaut with only 1500
hours???? Egads
I bet my paycheck against anybody's that the "Mercury 7" all had WAY more
than any 1500 hours. Moreover, I bet that the males in her class all had way
more than any 1500 hours.
Hell, I had over 6000 hours before I ever flew an airplane with a copilot,
or for that matter an autopilot.

She was a Naval Flight Officer (NFO) not a pilot. Most of her duty was in
Engineering assignments.

She wasn't an astronaut in the Mercury sense - not a pilot. She is (still
active last I heard) either a Payload Specialist or a Mission Specialist -
my bet is the former.

There is more to being in the shuttle than being a pilot.

Yeah, I know, "dumbing down" is SOP in every walk of life these days. I

get there at least one day a week...

Your comments are so stupid on so many levels it's difficult to know
where to begin...
OK: the diaper is the least puzzling aspect of this whole episode.
Shuttle crews wear diapers during launch & reentry when they do not have
access to the lavatory.
Political correctness? What? Did you read any other part of her
biography? She is qualified as a mission specialist. She is an engineer.
She does not fly the orbiter.
A couple of the males in her class:
MICHAEL ³MIKE² FINCKE (LIEUTENANT COLONEL, USAF)
NASA ASTRONAUT: over 825 flight hours in more than 30 different aircraft
types.
LEE M.E. MORIN, M.D., PH.D. (CAPTAIN, USN)
NASA ASTRONAUT: doesn't seem to be a pilot at all.

What a waste of a US Naval Officers career. I'm sure there are a million
candidates who never got to attend the USNA that would have served with
honor, contributed to the good of the country and kept their genitals in
check.
She is not to be condemned but pitied and needs help. God bless her
family and I hope they work through this.

Your reference to flight hours and the Mercury program. Weren't early
astronauts recruited from the military and required a minimum number of
flight hours in fast jets (thus ruling out women).

Hey, that makes me overqualified. Perhaps I can get one of those
directorship positions where I sit around and do nothing but collect a huge

Ummm. Yes. BUT SHE WASN'T ON THE ****ING SHUTTLE, WAS SHE? She was driving

OK. But the NEWS MEDIA keep saying she is an "astronaut". Perhaps there
should be a push to call people WHAT THEY REALLY ARE, instead of giving them
gratuitous titles that they haven't actually earned. Political

And therefore not an astronaut....a mission specialist maybe?
Did you know that the FAA now has a Certificate called "Commercial
Astronaut", and that to earn that rating one must actually "fly" a
spacecraft???? You don't get it by riding on one.

Did you know that the FAA now has a Certificate called "Commercial
Astronaut", and that to earn that rating one must actually "fly" a
spacecraft???? You don't get it by riding on one.

I know this will not convince you; however, here is the Wikipedia definition
of "astronaut."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astronaut
Dictionary.com defines it as:
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/astronaut
You don't have to be a pilot to meet the "travel in space" definition.
NASA has several set of wings for crew members. Career Astronauts,
Astronaut Candidates and Mission Specialist Astronauts.
(http://www.jsc.nasa.gov/Bios/) The term astronaut applies to all crew
members.
By the way, where did you find the "Pilots only" astronaut definition?

From Wikipedia.....
An astronaut or cosmonaut (Russian: ???????´?? IPA: [k?sm?'naft]) is a
person who travels in space or has been trained to do so. While often
reserved for professional space travellers, the term is also sometimes
applied to anyone who travels into space, including scientists,
politicians, journalists, and tourists.

Well she did apparently go a little insane. She wanted to get where she
was going as quickly as possible. Even in her scrambled mental state she
saw that as a problem that could be solved by wearing a diaper. Of
course she knew there were places to stop. She didn't want to stop,
that's the point. As an astronaut she wouldn't think twice about ****ing
in a diaper if it would solve a perceived problem.

Yes, a mission specialist, and an astronaut as defined by NASA. By the
way, these bios are directly from NASA.

Disagree. Not a dork. Just another guy building his experience. Same as I
did. Same as every real pilot did, and does, on a a daily basis....And we
**** up, all the time, but we learn from those mistakes so as not to do them
again.
We never "know it all", and anyone who says he does is the real dork, and a
hazard to air navigation.
Some may quote what NASA says is an "astronaut", but NASA has no
regulatority authority, but the FAA does, and by the FAA definition, one
must have actually piloted a spacecraft to earn an "Astronaut" rating. That
don't mean a "mission specialist".
Now, some may take offense to this fact, but nevertheless, it is the fact,
and to those who may have some political and/or other axe to grind I say
this....WHO FLYS THE MACHINE????
Answer = ASTRONAUT!!!!!\
Anybody else is just along for the ride, despite whatever job they have to
do.. Might as well be a guy operating a deep sea remotely operated
submersible. That don't make them a "saturation diver", does it?

OK. So anybody who has a bazillion dollars and can buy his/her way into
space is an astronaut? So I could win the lottery and buy my way to the ISS
and that would make me an astronaut???
What a disgrace to those brave men who risked, and lost, their lives to
advance the state of the art.
Gus Grissom, best stick of the bunch, once dead sticked an F-86 into WXOF
(know what that means...?) would be, I think, absolutely paralyzed by your
and the modern media's definition of what an "astronaut" is.

Haven't see WX0F in a synoptic in years (Indefinite Ceiling Obscured Zero
visibility in Fog), of course I quit flying in 2001.
I spent 5 years in USAFE, I've seen WX0F.

They changed it to the current Eurocentric "Metar/TAF" format a while back.

These days I just have it converted to regular English. Took a .297

enough. A lot has changed since we got our WX off the teletype, hasn't it?
