Lowrance 1000 comments

The plane I usually rent is probably going to be sold relatively soon.
I will miss the Garmin 430 since most of the planes left in the fleet
available to me do not have a GPS at all.

So I am looking at the Lowrance Airmap 1000 as a portable alternative,
but for the life of me, can't find a single negative comment about
it. I fly for a hobby and benign IFR at most.

Kat,
Yes, the Lowrance 1000 is a great GPS. If you don't mind a smaller
screen, I'd suggest getting the Lowrance 600 with color display and
terrain awareness for about the same price. The 2000c also with color
and terrain but a bigger screen cost just a few hundreds more and is
one of the best value portable GPSs (if you don't need xmweather).
We have been using the 1000 for the last few years and will
definitely add a large color Lowrance with XMweather when it is
availalbe.
You may want to wait until SnF time to purchase a Lowrance unit
when vendors often offer discount even online.

I agree with the suggestion to get the 600c if you don't mind the
smaller screen. Terrain and color add much to the situational awareness
you get from the picture.

I have a 2000C that has I love! In fact if you have an old Airmap,
Airmap 100, or Airmap 300 laying around (my previous GPS was the
original Lowrance Airmap), Lowrance will give you a $225 rebate. I
bought mine for $799 including terrain. With the $225 discount, it
was only $574!

It's no Garmin 496, and doesn't offer driving directions in the car,
but for an aviation unit you can't beat the price/performance ratio!
