View Full Version : Iowa Region Soaring Seminar and Banquet - Reminder

March 1st 07, 03:53 PM
Dont forget, this Saturday is the Iowa Region Soaring Seminar and
Banquet in Ames, IA. The presentations have all been verified and
this is what we have so far.

Jim Porter will be presenting on RC Cross Country Soaring. He will
have some of his RC Gliders on display. One is a 40% scale model of
an ASW-28. For the math impaired that comes out to just over a 7
meter wingspan! Jim has flown in RC Contests all over the world.

Don Ingraham will talk about his recent trip to Omarama. He took
about 400 pictures and several hours of video but promises to cut it
down to the best 30 or 40 shots.

Tours of Iowa State Universities C4 Virtual Reality Lab have been
arranged. We will be seeing a program on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
The lab uses 3D projectors to shine images on 3 walls and the floor to
create a cave-like effect. Iowa State is one of the leading
universities in Virtual Reality Applications.

Kathleen Winters will discuss her book Anne Morrow Lindbergh: First
Lady of the Air. Anne was one of the first female glider pilots in
the US and had many aviation adventures around the world.

After the seminar is over we will retire to Lucullan's Grill in
downtown Ames for Supper. There has been some confusion that this
dinner is just a club meeting for the Silent Knights. Im clearing it
up - Everyone is welcome! We will hear reports on flight activity in
the last year from all the area's represented and enjoy great food and
company.

Event website is www.knightglider.com/seminar.htm

At this point in the game don't worry about mailing me a check. Bring
it on Saturday, Cash is OK too. If you do plan to attend, please
email me at tcondon*at*iastate.edu so I have an idea of how many to
expect. Thanks!
