I miss the good old days living in Northern Maine and hearing a sonic booms.

This was a NASA modified F-5 with a nose designed to reduce the strenght of
shock waves produced during supersonic flight. The idea is to find a shape
that will allow supersonic flight at higher altitudes over populated areas
without a detectable "boom". What little I read about it was that the
results were not as good as expected.
