What does "below the line" mean, apparently with reference to checklists?

I know you are pretty proud of the aviation knowledge that you have
gained. However, as with most aspects of life, without the proper
letters behind your name people are not going to see as you an expert
in anything. One good solution for you (that is pretty inexpensive)
would be to aquire an Advanced Ground Instructor rating. You can buy
study materials (if you think you need to study), then you just go
down and take the FOI and AGI written tests, and POW, you are the
holder of an "Advanced Ground Instructor" FAA certificates. You never
have to step into an airplane, FBO, or ever see a CFI. I can assure
you that you will be treated with more respect after you have letters
behind your name.

How people see me is not very important. I worry about what I know, not about
what others think I know.

An interesting and intriguing suggestion. Unfortunately, I'm 6000 miles away
from the nearest testing location, so I can't really follow up on it right
now.

The quality of responses you get from your posts is directly related
to the amount of respect people have for you.

At the "old" PanAm, the takeoff checklist was divided by a line into
those items that could be accomplished at anytime after the taxi CL,
and those items that must be done after line-up on the runway. While
in TO position, some pilots would call for the "Final Items" while
others would call for "Below-the-Line"....same result.

In my business this is what we call a lineup check. Same result I would

I looked it up, though I don't know why I spent the time doing that because
learning the name of something does not impart any knowledge or
understanding per se. Knowing aviation slang and colloquialisms are of
course useful for communicating, but I'm not sure what other use is served.

With all your aviation knowledge, why not jump on the Metro to Le
Bourget Cedex FAA testing center and spend the afternoon taking your
AGI and FOI exams?

Actually, that's not quite true. Sometimes the =name= of something
gives hints as to its relationship to other somethings one already knows
the name of. That imparts understanding.

What I mean is there are enough assholes involved in teaching ground
schools already. I've seen quite a few of them, most are lucky to avoid
lynching after they teach. We have one in my place. never a pilot but he
teaches some of our ground schools. Suffice to say he's cut from the
same cloth as this moron.

I'll give you the objective. If you take the tests before before April 1,
2007 and score above a 90% on both tests I will mail you a crisp new $100US
bill. If you don't score at least 90% on the test you promise to NEVER under
any name to ever post in a REC.Aviation.* newsgroup.

I'm sure he does. In fact he uses the same tactics you do to deflect

Wel, granted it would cost more than a grand to rebuild a CF-6 after your

OK then, I've offered $100 to the pot why don't you make a call and see what
the test costs there. I'll bet we have a few more on the group that would
add to the pot under the same conditions I proposed.

How much do you think it costs to take the written test anyway?

There's the cost of my time, transportation, lost wages, and so on.

I don't know, but unless it's practically free, it would not be cost-effective
to take it.

According to you own words $100 is equal to a week of your income so that

As I mentioned I'm sure there are others in the groupd that would be will to
add to the pot to cover the cost of th tests.

But you see, I knew you would refuse the challenge because it would prove
that you really don't have a clue and aren't even willing to put a very
little bit of your not very valuable time to prove that you do in fact have
a clue.

So, go away little man.

Yes, everyone has setbacks in their lives, but most of us have developed

Here I think you are wrong Doc. I think he knows he couldn't pass them and
so he won't try. His ego, which several times he has said he doesn't have,
won't let him. Plus, part of the deal was that he never post here again and
that would remove what is probably one of the high point of his sad and

Because he contradicts what I learned from Boeing, for starters, and he
doesn't know elementary portions of his supposed field of expertise,
performance. For instance, he doesn't know what a V2 Vs spread is, just
like you don't.

I can only assume you mean that he just does this crap for fun. I thought
that once as well. But it has gone on so long now that if it is the case he
really must be crazy. This isn't the kind of fun that would be fun for a
sane person for this long.

As I said to earn some money.

This is a surprise? He can't be bothered to look up simple questions in a
search engine, after all...

Having the credential would not earn as much money as it would cost.

Ok then let me put it to you this way. If the test is paid for and the
$100 is in addition to the cost of the test would you do it?

No, not for $100.

Well then you have proved that you are full of crap. $100 is a weeks
earnings for you that should be more than enough for a couple of hours work.

True, so true. Those were the days. Thinking about SnF and just
hoping Imight meet him there. Maybe leave him one of my cards....

It would be a lot more than a couple of hours work.

You seem to believe that I feel compelled to prove something. I don't. I'm
not interested in credentials. Credentials are something you use to impress
other people (or at least people who are impressionable). I'm simply
interested in knowledge, whether it impresses others or not.

And what does that say about those who post hundreds of messages
talking about him ? It's gone on too long now, and isn't fun or
funny.

Just look at this thread. One good question, with a couple of good
answers. The other fifty posts are junk caused by you, Mx, Viper and
Bertie. Really, Gig and Doc, you used to have a decent rep here. Now
a useless obsession has taken over you.

Seriously, how about posting aviation content instead of playing
amateur psycholgists? I'd pay you each $1 ... surely that's enough
motivation? :-)

Thanks,
Kev

I'll second that. I read 51 messages. One good question and two good
answers and the rest psychobabble inspired mostly by bertie with a
supporting cast. It seems the simple act of asking a question
inspires rage. I'd chip in $.50 to keep them quiet.

I'm starting to wonder whether Tarver had a twin brother
that was separated at birth. MaxManiac has all the earmarks
of being part of the Splaps bloodline. Too bad you can't do
DNA testing on newsgroup posts.

Depends on where you're sitting. If you're this easily upset, you had
best figure out how to use your killfile before I get warmed up.

I can do both. But I don't really see myelf as a pyschologist in this
instance..
