Lefty Gardner. IIRC, it was recently sold, still

One thing I have wondered is why when the model
was a P-38L did it have the earlier style intakes?

Lefty was one of the founders of the CAF and thus his P-38 was displayed at
most CAF events.

They were applied for it's days as a racer or race pace plane for
streamlining.
